I am such a fan of resin craft ideas! I always feel so fancy when I find a new material thatlooks like it’s really hard to work with but in all actuality is a total snap. That’s resin, folks.

(I have lots of other resin craft ideas, like resin coasters, modern table placecards using resin, and even this tarantula Halloween paperweight.)

What You Need for Resin Crafts

If you’re new to resin crafts, don’t be scared! It can seem mysterious and difficult but it’s really quite easy to work with.

I recommend a simple resin kit if it’s your first time because it comes with everything you’ll need to make your first project. Then if you enjoy the technique, you can invest in more supplies.

In a resin kit, you’ll usually get resin, hardener, measuring cups, stir sticks, and gloves. For this resin craft, you’ll also need alphabet beads (or whatever item you want to encase in your resin), and toothpicks.

See our linked list below to grab all of the supplies you’ll need.

Where to Buy Resin Craft Supplies and Molds

If you have a local craft store, check there for a resin craft kit or supplies. Most hobby shops or craft supply stores will have the basic materials that you’ll need (and shopping local is always a great idea!).

If not, see our linked list above to purchase online.

Other Ideas for Additions to Your Resin

I created our paperweight resin craft with alphabet beads, because I wanted to give the paperweights a conversation heart vibe for Valentine’s Day.

But you can add so many other things to your resin paperweight! Here are just a few ideas.

How to Create This Resin Craft Paperweight Idea for Valentine’s DAy

  1. Mix the resin according to the instructions on the packaging. Put equal parts of resin and hardener into a cup and stir for two minutes. Transfer to another cup and continue to stir for another two minutes.
  2. As you’re stirring, use smooth motions and try not to create any extra air bubbles. This will help keep the resin as clear as possible.
  3. Pour the resin into the heart mold. Fill about halfway. Gently set your beads down on the surface of the resin, being sure to account for the reversed letters; what you see on top of the resin will be the back side of the paperweight.
  4. The beads should sink toward the bottom. As you’re adding the beads and letting them sink to the bottom, they may shift in their positions. Use a toothpick to gently nudge them back into place. Don’t push them all the way to the bottom of the mold; try not to let them touch but just have them hover above the bottom.
  5. Allow the resin to cure according to the instructions in the kit. Once cured, remove the paperweights from the molds.
