This camera is quite a few years old, but at its time it was one of the best at its level and remains rather fast in terms of shutter speed and noise at high ISO.

Pros

  • Number of burst shots

I am currently using this camera on loan from a friend. My main subjects are airplanes (passenger planes). During a photography trip to Narita Airport in Japan the other day, I shot with this 7D and the EF100-400 L genuine zoom lens (1st generation). There was no problem with spotting cuts (record photos) of the landing in the daytime, but when I took a picture of the aircraft taking off from the runway edge, it was surprisingly out of focus! This is troublesome. I think it's probably a camera issue. This AF is out of the question, so I used MF when taking off shots at the end of the runway. Although we weren't able to take off, we were able to get good shots of the landing, and we were also able to take satisfactory panning shots at sunset. ISO 800 is the limit. It's already noisy. Shooting at night is absolutely impossible. If you want to shoot at night, you have to use 1DX2 or 3 or EOS R system. Image quality is satisfactory. However, since it's APS-C, it might be difficult to trim it...By the way, I don't know how much it costs overseas, but in Japan, a used 7D starts at around 15,000 yen (114.37$), and a nearly new one with about 900 shots costs around 25,000 yen (190.53$). Cheap anyway. Probably the kiss series (Well, the name "Kiss" is only in Japan... Kiss is that beginner's model. It was called something like REVEL in the United States, if I remember correctly. Sorry for my lack of knowledge.)Well, at this price, this performance is amazing! Cospa is the best! Recommended for beginners! However, if you use it for a long time, you will yearn for the 7D Mark 2, 80D, and full size. For the time being, I think this is correct! Take a good photo with this! Excuse me for the long message.

    Pros

    • High performance for the price.
    • In Japan, you can buy an individual with about 900 shots in good condition for about 25,000 yen (190.5$).

    Cons

    • AF is quite slow when shooting moving objects (aircraft).

I used this camera for half a year, then traded it in for the 5d mk III. The camera performs inadequately in poor light... otherwise, it's a great camera to start with. I quickly encountered the disadvantages of a crop sensor

    Pros

    • Professional look
    • Lots of setting options
    • Fun to start with
    • Not expensive

    Cons

    • Crop sensor
    • Underperforms in poor light

    Design

    Type

    DSLR

    The type of camera.

    viewfinder

    Optical viewfinder (OVF)

The type of viewfinder that the camera has.

    is weather-sealed (splashproof)

    Canon EOS 7D

The device is protected with extra seals to prevent failures caused by dust, raindrops, and water splashes.

    screen resolution

    920k dots

A higher screen resolution provides a sharper image, making it easier to review your photos.

    has a built-in focus motor

Unknown. Help us by suggesting a value.

The focus motor moves the lens in order to autofocus. For system cameras, having a focus motor in the camera's body allows you to use a wide range of lenses, including lenses which do not have their own focus motor. For compact cameras, a focus motor is usually built-in.

    Has a flip-out screen

    Canon EOS 7D

Flip-out screens can be useful for tricky shots.

    viewfinder coverage

    100%

With 100% coverage, you can compose the image correctly when you capture the photo. With less than full coverage, you may have to crop your photos afterward to get them looking perfect.

    screen size

    3"

The size of the screen (measured diagonally).

    weight

    820 g

We consider a lower weight better because lighter devices are more comfortable to carry. A lower weight is also an advantage for home appliances, as it makes transportation easier, and for many other types of products.

    Optics

    sensor size

    APS-C

One of the most important aspects of a camera is the size of its sensor. A larger sensor will capture more light, which results in improved low-light performance, dynamic range, and general image quality.

    lens mount

    Canon EF

    focus points

    19

The more focus points the more flexibility in picking which part of the scene to focus on. They also give the image sensor a better probability in identifying the right area of the scene to focus on in more automatic modes.

    megapixels (main camera)

    18 MP

The number of megapixels determines the resolution of the images captured with the main camera. A higher megapixel count means that the camera is capable of capturing more details. However, the megapixel count is not the only important element determining the quality of an image.

    maximum ISO

    6400 ISO

With a higher light sensitivity (ISO level), the sensor absorbs more light. This can be used to capture moving objects using a fast shutter speed, or to take images in low light without using a flash.

    maximum expanded ISO

    12800 ISO

Expanded ISO allows you to go beyond the native ISO. It does this by digitally enhancing the image output. The resulting image will have less quality than when staying within the native ISO range, but it can be useful in certain situations.

    has sensor shift stabilization

    Canon EOS 7D

With sensor shift, the image sensor (rather than the lens) moves to counterbalance any vibration of the camera. This means the image will be stabilised regardless of what lens is being used.

    continuous shooting (mechanical)

    8 fps

The number of frames per second that can be captured in continuous drive mode when using the mechanical shutter.

    has AF tracking

    Canon EOS 7D

With AF tracking, once you choose the subject and press the shutter release part way down, as the subject moves, the autofocus will follow it. No more out of focus shots.

    Videography

    video recording (main camera)

    1080 x 30 fps

The maximum resolution available for videos shot with the main camera. Although it may be possible to choose among other frame rates, those recordings usually have lower resolutions.

    Has phase-detection autofocus for videos

    Canon EOS 7D

A phase-detection autofocus system is faster than a contrast detection autofocus system. Even when recording scenes with a lot of fast movements, the videos are sharp and clear.

has continuous autofocus when recording movies

    Canon EOS 7D

When recording movies they stay focussed and sharp.

    has a microphone input

    Canon EOS 7D

A microphone port allows connecting external high-end or specialized microphones.

has a socket for a 3.5 mm audio jack

    Canon EOS 7D

With a standard mini jack socket, you can use the device with most headphones.

    has a stereo microphone

    Canon EOS 7D

A stereo microphone allows to record audio files or movies in stereo without an external microphone.

    Has timelapse function

    Canon EOS 7D

A timelapse shows a long passage of time sped up. A series of photographs taken from the same position over a long period is joined together to create a short video. It is great way to capture things like the setting sun, or clouds moving across the sky.

    movie bitrate

Unknown. Help us by suggesting a value.

The higher the movie recording bitrate the better the movie quality with more and crispier details and less compression artifacts.

    number of microphones

    1

More microphones result in better sound quality and enable the device to filter out background noise.

    Battery

    Battery life (CIPA)

    800 shots

CIPA is an independent, standard measurement that determines how many shots a camera can take before the battery dies.

    has a removable battery

    Canon EOS 7D

The battery is removable and can be replaced by the user if broken.

    has a rechargeable battery

    Canon EOS 7D

The battery can be recharged and used over again.

    has a battery level indicator

    Canon EOS 7D

An indicator shows you when the device has low battery.

    battery power

    1800 mAh

Battery power, or battery capacity, represents the amount of electrical energy that a battery can store. More battery power can be an indication of longer battery life.

    Features

    processor

    Digic 4
    Canon EOS 7D

The image processor used in the camera.

    supports Wi-Fi

    Canon EOS 7D

The device can connect to Wi-Fi.

    Has Bluetooth

    Canon EOS 7D

Bluetooth is a wireless technology that allows you to easily transfer data between different devices, such as smartphones, tablets and computers.

    Has dual card slots

    Canon EOS 7D

It has two memory card slots, allowing you to store more photos without switching cards. This is particularly useful on long shoots when you need more space.

    shoots raw

    Canon EOS 7D

A raw image file contains minimally processed data from the image sensor. Raw files are so named because they are not yet processed and therefore are not ready to be printed or edited with a bitmap graphics editor.

    supports lossless compressed raw

    Canon EOS 7D

It is capable of shooting stills in a lossless compressed raw format. This has all the advantages of shooting raw, while taking up much less storage space. The smaller file size also allows quicker read/write speeds.

    supports a remote smartphone

    Canon EOS 7D

This technology allows the users to use their smartphone as a remote control for the device.

    has an HDMI output

    Canon EOS 7D

You can output high definition video and audio to a display. This could be through an HDMI port, Mini HDMI port, or a USB-C port that supports HDMI.

    has GPS

    Canon EOS 7D

GPS enables global positioning, useful in map, geo-tagging or navigation apps.

    Miscellaneous

    pixel density

    471 ppi

Pixel density is a measurement of a screen's resolution, expressed as the number of pixels per inch (PPI) on the screen. A higher pixel density translates into more clarity and sharpness for the images rendered on the screen, thus improving the quality of the viewing experience.
