How do you type letters in Alt codes? ›

To use an Alt code, press and hold down the Alt key and type the code using the numeric key pad on the right side of your keyboard. If you do not have a numeric keypad, copy and paste the symbols from this page, or go back try another typing method. Note: The same content is also available as a PDF.

The magic sequence of keys Alt-255 typed at numeric keypad places an Invisible Character symbol into text. This character looks like a blank space in the program code and SAS output but is processed and printed by many programs as a valid text character.

Hold the Alt key as you type the following four digit codes on your numeric keypad: Alt + 0218 for Ú, upper case U with acute accent. Alt + 0250 for ú, lower case u with acute accent.

Alt + Ctrl + Shift + ! CTRL+grave accent (the key to the left of the number “1” on the top row of keys) puts a grave accent over the next vowel typed. The “6” key becomes a circumflex accent when shifted, so CTRL+SHIFT+6 plus either “a”, “e”, “i”, “o”, or “u” generates “â”, “ê”, “î”, “ô”, and “û”, respectively.

The lowercase ⟨ñ⟩ can be made in the Microsoft Windows operating system by typing Alt + 164 or Alt + 0241 on the numeric keypad (with Num Lock turned on); the uppercase ⟨Ñ⟩ can be made with Alt + 165 or Alt + 0209 . Character Map in Windows identifies the letter as "Latin Small/Capital Letter N With Tilde".

To get the letter, character, sign or symbol "°" : ( Degree symbol ) on computers with Windows operating system: 1) Press the "Alt" key on your keyboard, and do not let go. 2) While keep press "Alt", on your keyboard type the number "248", which is the number of the letter or symbol "°" in ASCII table.

Unicode defines the following special character as soft hyphen (discretionary hyphen) 00AD: Shortcut Alt 0173. In Word typing Alt+0173 or converting 00AD creates a hyphen similar to 002D (hyphen minus) and not the discretionary hyphen.

In Windows there is a command for a "non-breaking" space which keeps two words together as a single unit. The keyboard shortcut for this is ALT 0160 and this does work in Legacy. In the Given Name field type Mary, then ALT 0160, then Lou.

How to type õ on keyboard? ›

Ctrl + : (Ctrl + Shift + semi-colon) then press o for lower case ö with an umlaut accent. Ctrl + ~ (Ctrl + Shift + `) then press O for upper case Õ with a tilde accent. Ctrl + ~ (Ctrl + Shift + `) then press o for lower case õ with a tilde accent.

To input the acute a á (0225), hold down the ALT key, type 0225 on the numeric keypad, then release the ALT key.

Press and hold the Alt key and use the numeric keypad to enter 0252 (lowercase) or 0220 (uppercase). Release the Alt key and voila! Your umlaut appears. On Macs, you can press and hold “option + u” for lowercase “ü” or “option + U” for uppercase “Ü”.

Hold down the Alt key, and use the number keypad to enter the character code — that's 0252 for the plain checkmark and 0254 for the boxed checkmark.

Press Control + `, then the letter to add a grave accent.

Hold the Control key down, then tap the accent key near the top left corner of your keypad. Release the keys. Then select the desired letter to accent. The accent key is usually on the same key as the ~.

Alt Codes can type numerous characters with the combination of the Alt key and different number keys. But some laptops don't have a separate Numpad, you can find the modifier key Fn and use the Alt codes by pressing Fn and Alt keys simultaneously.
